Set on Sydney’s leafy Lower North Shore, Gore Hill Reserve demonstrates the re-visioning of a facility to meet the changing needs of a community.
The objective of this project was to create a new facility – for sports, play and community enjoyment – drawing on vital drainage infrastructure.
With the developed plan receiving wide support from the community, our team was awarded the documentation for stage 1 of the works, which encompassed the redevelopment of the oval and construction of a new playground at Gore Hill Reserve.
Since opening, the site has seen significant increases in usage by sporting bodies, office workers on their lunchbreaks and community users keen to capitalise on the green, open spaces.
Stormwater management systems, including onsite detention, were incorporated in association with the reconfiguration of the oval to meet the needs of the dominant sporting code (AFL), while providing flexibility for usage by other codes.
Our team addressed the needs of stormwater management and its integration with the development of a synthetic oval. The solution provides flexibility for the future development of an indoor sports facility, while meeting existing oval demands.
