Located on Tucker Street in the heart of Adelaide, this six-storey development provides affordable, transitional housing for women at risk of homelessness.

With landscape architecture by Tract in collaboration with Woods Bagot as part of the South Australian Government’s Public Housing Improvement Program, the Tucker Street Housing Development project integrates architecture and landscape to create a safe, dignified and liveable environment.

The landscape shapes everyday experience, transforming the ground plane into a sequence of attractive, comfortable and shaded outdoor spaces. A landscaped courtyard at ground level provides a welcoming communal heart, encouraging outdoor activity, rest and informal social interaction. These spaces foster a sense of physical and visual connection between residents, and to the surrounding neighbourhood and public realm.

Thoughtfully designed planting, microclimate-responsive shade and generous seating areas encourage year-round use, supporting wellbeing and social engagement. The landscape creates layered thresholds between private, shared and public spaces, promoting safety, connection and a sense of belonging. Through carefully shaped outdoor spaces, the landscape architecture reinforces community life, enhances liveability and supports a sense of home.
