The Sporting Wheelies & Disabled Association is a registered charity with a mission to engage, empower, and develop people with a disability to live a more healthy, active, and fulfilled life of their choosing.
As part of this mission statement, Sporting Wheelies was seeking to develop Australia’s first clubhouse for inclusive and para sports by relocating the headquarters of the charity. The clubhouse is proposed in the central Brisbane suburb of Milton and will be an industry leading facility incorporating world-class rehabilitation and support services.
The facility – inclusive of an entirely accessible para sports courts, open floor gym, sports specialist rooms, and office spaces, and much more – will be a space to bring together disability experts, allied health specialists, para sports coaches and a community of people who support para sports.
Tract was proud to provide support for this project on a Pro Bono basis and assist the client and consulting team to achieve approval through a Ministerial Infrastructure Designations pathway.
The reason for this approach was due to the urgent need to construct and begin operation on the facility as soon as possible due to the end of the lease at the current premises at Albion. The facility will be developed as community supporting infrastructure and will bring diversity to the area.
Tract worked extensively with the wider project team, State government Ministerial Infrastructure Designation team, and Brisbane City Council to facilitate the expedited approval process.
