The Swan Hill Riverfront Project aims to revitalise the heart of Swan Hill and its relationship with the great Murray River. Tract has been engaged by Swan Hill Rural City Council to prepare a plan for the renewal of the Swan Hill Riverfront covering 4.5km’s adjacent to the town centre.
The plan will be framed in a place-making approach, to enhance the precinct as public spaces and places for locals and visitors. It will deliver new and improved community infrastructure and facilities, improved accessibility to the river, provide for better management and awareness of environmental and cultural aspects of the precinct, and grow local jobs and tourism.
A key challenge for the project is to deliver a cohesive public realm and built form response which focuses on the experience of people, maximises the connection with the spectacular landscape setting and captures the unique character of the site. This will need to be balanced with access and environmental requirements, whilst recognizing commercial opportunities that will deliver economic outcomes for the precinct, the township and the region.
The project provides significant opportunities for the community to provide input and shape the plan through a range of accessible ‘open house’ events at key stages. The masterplan has been underpinned by the local communities desire to see it as an engaging, family friendly and public space.
