The Somerfield Estate integrates a network of green open space reserves that thread through the housing development. Located in the southern corner of the northern reserve may be found the Somerfield Pirate Playground.
Encircled by a ring of deciduous trees a lair of piratical skulduggery awaits the unsuspecting parent that is ready to delight young minds. Custom built play elements create a fanciful adventure space providing pirates of all ages with a variety of engaging activities.
The centrepiece of the Somerfield Pirate Playground is a densely planted mound. To gain access to the mound explorers must pass through the Castaway’s Hut and travel around a disabled friendly path before arriving at the Crow’s Nest.
Once atop the mound a vista of the pirate ships below is revealed and access is granted via a 9m long covered stainless steel slide.
Other unique features of the Somerfield Pirate Playground include Seal’s Cove, where four specially commissioned bronze seals laze in the sun, occasionally disturbed by toddlers eager to have a ride and the rope climb giving quick access to the central mound.
Shade shelters, lavatories and BBQ facilities complete the park and ensure the visitor has an enjoyable outdoor experience.
