Moonah Links is a major golf-based recreation and tourist facility that has been developed in “The Cups” sand belt on the Mornington Peninsula near Rye. “The Cups” is considered to be the best area for golf course development in Australia due to the sandy soils and moderate climate.
The 227 ha site includes:
- Two championship golf courses (one of which holds the Australian Open);
- A museum for Australian golf;
- Golf training facilities for the Australian Institute of Sport; and
- A major hotel, conference facility and resort accommodation.
Tract Consultants Pty Ltd prepared the Masterplan for the site and obtained a rezoning of the property from Rural Zone to Comprehensive Development Zone.
Tract co-ordinated the amendment process and prepared the Comprehensive Development Plan, Environmental Management Plans, Landscape Plans and a Vegetation Strategy for the development.
Tract were also landscape architects for all elements of the site except the golf course. This required working with specialist consultants, including golf course designers and undertaking the preparation of site analysis, plans, supporting reports and appropriate planning scheme amendments.
