This world-class public transport network provides a one-transfer journey between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, offering a new way to see and explore Queensland.

The Gold Coast Light Rail (GCLR) Stage 2 is a 7.3km light rail extension. It provides the necessary linkage between the existing GCLR Stage 1 and the heavy rail system connection at Helensvale, and offers passengers an easy trip between the CBDs of Queensland’s two biggest cities: the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Our urban design and landscaping solution delivered a vibrant and colourful enhancement to the Gold Coast, and a seamless extension to Stage 1. It was important to minimise impacts on the sensitive community and environmental corridors – including the Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area, an internationally significant Ramsar Wetland.

Our key design principles were to maximise accessibility, respect urban character, maintain visual amenity, design a safe public realm and protect both landscape values and the environment – all the while creating an efficient public transport network to keep people on the move.
