Tract Steps Up Industry Involvement

Building upon the example of senior staff members including Justin Slater (PCA), Kirsten Kilpatrick, Nevan Wadeson, and Adam Terrill (UDIA), 2014 marks a year of Tract’s unprecedented involvement within PIA’s Victorian Young Planners (‘VYP’) Committee.

Ranging in level from Student (Rob Marks) to Planner (Ben Daly) to Senior Planner (Simon Loader), Tract now flies three flags on the VYP Committee which comprises 13 young professionals across Victoria.

Rob Marks, also a part-time employee of PIA, is currently pushing the events agenda with involvement in the 2014 Nexus Ball and the forthcoming ‘Building Your Career’ night. Rob was also instrumental in the organisation of our recent welcome event which attracted 60+ young planners at the City of Melbourne Bowls Club.

Nearing the end of his second two-year term, Simon Loader has a wealth of committee experience. Simon is an avid advocate for planning in Regional Victoria and, by bringing the ‘Building Your Career’ night to Geelong, he is continuing to build both PIA’s and Tract’s presence in the region.
Focusing on advocacy and policy directions, Ben Daly is currently working on a submission to the reformed State Planning Policy Framework on the back of a successful Plan Melbourne submission. Ben has also recently submitted a short industry reflection for the April edition of PIA’s Planning News.

With Nick Clements continuing his involvement in the VPELA Young Professionals Group and Mark Skiba and Sue Ozanne holding the fort at AILA, it is fair to say Tract has all bases covered. Further, this spread has also allowed Tract staff to strengthen the relationships between various industry groups, particularly through PIA’s co-hosting of the ‘Shades of Green’ National Parks debate with AILA (Ben and Mark) and through PIA’s collective organisation of the 2013 Nexus Ball alongside VPELA and the UDIA (Simon, Ben, and Nick).

Importantly, Tract’s continued industry involvement ensures we are always across the board and at the forefront of significant industry updates, movements, and changes.
