The Gold Coast Light Rail (GCLR) project will underpin a world-class public transport network for residents and visitors to the Gold Coast. It is intended to ultimately extend from the heavy rail system at the northern end of the Gold Coast and connect the activity centres along the coastal strip to the Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta.
The system has been designed to be delivered in a number of stages responding to the growth of the Gold Coast. The stage 2 alignment encompasses 7.3km of rail corridor as well as stations at Parkwood, Parkwood East and Helensvale.
Tract's urban design and landscaping solution for Stage 2 provides a vibrant and colourful enhancement to the Gold Coast, and a seamless extension to Stage 1.
The key principles of the urban design and landscape solution were to:
- Maximise accessibility
- Respect urban character
- Maintain visual amenity
- Protect landscape values
- Design a safe public realm
- Protect the environment
The design integrates the function, material and landscape elements of the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 2 works into the existing urban environment.
