Camberwell Grammar - Master Plan - Tract Consultants

The Camberwell Grammar overall landscape Master Plan, designed by Tract Consultants, intends to celebrate the schools rich creative and cultural heritage whilst providing attractive spaces and amenities for learning, gathering and contemplation.

Guided by the Masterplan framework, four projects have been successfully designed and built;

  • Contemplation Court
  • Middle School Buildings & associated landscape
  • Roystead and Kingussie Houses redevelopment
  • Wheelton Centre Forum and amphitheatre
The Contemplation Court celebrates the history of the school in three distinct periods pre-white settlement, early school history and current. The design divided the space into three discrete areas to acknowledge these historical periods whilst using a central water feature as a coordinating device.
The Middle School development included a large north-facing plaza and series of steps and ramps providing ease of pedestrian movement and extensive planting to create spaces for gathering and movement.

The Roystead/Kingussie houses were designed to be sympathetic to the Federation character of the architecture and fulfilling the requirements of a contemporary campus.

In collaboration with Peter Crone Architects, the Wheelton Centre Forum (completed 2013) provided a significant new building for the Senior School, and various external spaces to facilitate functions, learning and informal student gathering. The functional and visual heart of which is a large outdoor amphitheatre.

Further stages of the Master Plan include the development of a new chapel, sports centre and on-structure oval over car park.

Water sensitive urban design measures, and robust paving and planting design, appropriate for intended use, underscore the entire development. A selected palette and materials have been adopted to ensure each precinct forms a cohesive whole.
