Creating Healthier Communities Event

Creating Healthier Communities

Following on from the Domain Healthy Suburb Study undertaken last year, our team attended the Creating Healthier Communities event held by the Planning Institute of Australia last night at OneRoof Melbourne.

The event was facilitated by Tract Principal Town Planner Jess Noonan, with leading experts including Dr Claire Boulange (RMIT), Naomi Gilbert (Heart Foundation), Mike Day (Roberts Day) and Cazz Redding (RedInk Planning) discuss the various correlations between the built environment and physical health outcomes, the economic impacts and human cost of inaction, the practical application of the healthy community principles and what needs to change in planning policy to implement the research.
It is now well documented that the way we plan and design our communities has a direct health impact on residents and that where we live plays a part in the health of residents. The missing piece of the puzzle is how we construct policy to support and encourage healthier design choices.

Tract is actively promoting healthier places through our projects and our upcoming internship program commencing in July which will develop indicators for the evaluation of existing urban environments and precinct structure plans.

Please get in touch if you want to discuss how your projects could provide healthier outcomes.
