Australian Islamic Centre_____

Australian Islamic Centre - Landscape Concept Design - Tract Consultants

Australian Islamic Centre

Tract worked in collaboration with Glen Murcutt, and local practice Elevli Plus Architects to design the Australian Islamic Centre in Newport, which is currently under construction.

The remarkable building, which has received much media attention is a complete departure from traditional mosque design, with Murcutt reinterpreting the mosque for local environmental and social conditions.

Tract, similarly conceived a landscape treatment with a strong civic dimensions, providing productive community gardens, children's gardens and gathering spaces and drawing on a plant palette with both Australian and Middle Eastern resonances. The garden will be a sanctuary, a place for social gathering, for production and harvest, shelter and beauty.

The Australian Islamic Centre is a socially inclusive and welcoming place, and we are very pleased to have been involved in its creation.
