Tract won a design competition for the redevelopment of the transport interchange at Manly Wharf. Tract was appointed principal consultant for the project team which included transport planning, civil and structural engineering, and architecture.
The Manly Interchange project objective was to provide a more convenient, safe and enjoyable environment for travellers, visitors and residents to move between the transport interchange and the 'Corso' and Manly Beach by minimising conflicts. The scheme reduced traffic congestion, enhanced pedestrian amenity and improved the level of bus services while providing a fitting gateway to Manly.
The works included the provision of a pedestrian plaza and a new Visitor Information Centre at the Manly Wharf forecourt. New bus shelters and public amenities were constructed as part of the works. Works included an interpretive overlay of public art works which depicted items of natural and cultural heritage to the area.
The project has been a significant one for the Manly community, and the design process involved more than two years of consultation. It has provided the stimulus for a number of other public improvements both within the Corso and along the Beach front.
